I'm proud to announce that my lithograph, Magen Was Burning Through Yesterday, won an Award of Merit at this years Arts in the Air exhibition at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain. It was an honor just to be accepted into the exhibition, much less win an award.

Participating in exhibitions and juried shows is, more often than not, a part of being an artist. But it is the rare occasion that the exhibition
turns into an event that allows the artists exhibiting to get to know one another and share their thoughts. I was lucky enough this past weekend to participate in just such a show. It's called the Arts in the Air, and it's held at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute atop Petit Jean Mountain in central Arkansas. What made this event so different for me and several of the artists was that the Institute provided lodging for all the exhibiting artists. The work that an artist does can be, and most often is, a solitary thing. It was wonderful to be able to spend time with others of a like mind, those that are struggling with creating images and trying to make their mark on the world. I found it invigorating to be able to just spend time with the other artists and hear what they had to say, regardless of whether or not it was about art.
The opening weekend of the exhibit was marked not only by good art, but also by strong storms. The mountain was enveloped in clouds almost the entire time we were there. It only helped to reinforce the feeling of being on some kind of retreat with other artists.
It's an experience that I hope to be able to have again.
